Signs of termite
- Mud tubes running up foundation walls, piers or crawl space posts
- Hollow-sounding wood when knocked on trim, studs or baseboards
- Small holes in wood and piles of frass (sawdust-like droppings)
- Cracked or bubbling paint on trim
- Swarming wings near windows, doors or light fixtures in spring
- Moisture in the crawl space or at the foundation, which attracts termite activity
How we treat termite
We inspect the structure: foundation, crawl space, sill plate, trim, and any area where mud tubes or damage are present. Findings determine whether a liquid termiticide barrier, a bait station system, or both are appropriate.
Liquid termiticides create a treated zone in the soil around the foundation so termites cannot enter through the base. Bait stations reduce colonies over time and are checked annually, which is the better option where a full barrier is not practical. We use Trelona bait stations for that work.
Moisture and grade corrections are part of the work. Termites follow moisture - poor drainage, crawl space humidity, mulch contact and downspouts that dump against the foundation all increase risk.
Follow-up inspections are scheduled so the treatment is verified, not assumed. Documentation of the treatment and inspection history matters if you sell the property or file a claim.
Prevention
Keep mulch and soil contact off the foundation and sill plate, direct downspouts away from the house, keep crawl spaces dry and enclosed, store firewood away from the structure, and have suspect wood checked rather than patched over.
