Mosquito control works when it targets where mosquitoes rest and breed, not the open yard. Treating grass and shrubs helps for a short window; source reduction is what actually lowers the population through the season.
Signs of mosquito
- Biting activity on patios, decks and yards in the evening
- Standing water in buckets, tires, catch basins, clogged gutters or low spots
- Heavy activity near shaded, damp vegetation and fence lines
- Activity concentrated near a pond, ditch or the Scioto River basin
- Recurring bites in the same area week after week
- A noticeable increase after rain
How we treat mosquito
We treat harborage areas - shaded vegetation, tall grass edges, fence lines and damp ground - where adult mosquitoes rest during the day, rather than broadcasting treatment across the whole property.
Source reduction is the part that lasts. We walk the property for breeding sites: containers, gutters, catch basins, low ground and any water that sits for more than a few days. Removing those reduces the population more than any spray.
Seasonal applications are scheduled through the active period, typically May through September in Central Ohio, with follow-up timed to rainfall and activity rather than a fixed calendar.
For properties near the river or retained ponds, coordinated treatment with neighboring yards is more effective than treating one property alone.
Prevention
Dump standing water weekly, clean gutters and catch basins, keep vegetation trimmed along fence lines, use fans or screened seating on decks, and treat at dusk when activity peaks.
Plans & pricing
Inspection is free for Central Ohio properties we service. Mosquito service is priced by scope - one-time as-needed treatment, or a quarterly plan under one of the three residential tiers that includes re-treatment between visits if the problem returns. See residential plans and commercial programs, or call 614-592-4616 for a quote before any work is scheduled.
FAQs about mosquito
How do you reduce mosquitoes around my home?
Yard treatments targeting harborage areas, standing-water source reduction, and seasonal follow-up.
Are mosquito treatments safe for kids and pets?
Yes. We use low-toxicity products and explain precautions before treatment.
How long does a yard treatment last?
Typically two to three weeks, longer in dry conditions. Rain and new breeding sites reset the clock.
Do you treat the whole yard?
We treat harborage areas first. Open turf is treated only where activity is confirmed, because that is where the population is actually resting.
Do neighbors need treatment too?
Often yes. Mosquitoes range across properties, so coordinated service near water is more effective than treating one yard.
When does mosquito season start in Central Ohio?
Late May through September, with the heaviest pressure in July and August after sustained rain.
Do I need to be inside during treatment?
No. Yard treatment is applied to harborage areas and we explain the timing before we start.
Do you offer a guarantee?
Yes. If activity returns between scheduled visits, we re-treat at no charge.
